Tips to read the document!!
Always follow the instructions in your invitation. Read the email carefully!
Book a slot ASAP when you receive an invitation. You might end up receiving an early slot if they all fill up.
This is a guide! While they can tweak year-to-year, this is a realistic expectation to prepare for in 2026 unless these universities announce a change. Always defer to the official email and university page for the latest instructions.
Two Main Types Of Medical School interview
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many Medical Schools switched from in-person to online interviews, and there is a state of fluctuation in this process. We have tried to get the most up-to-date information. However, schools are still transitioning how they conduct their interviews, and the tech and setup of their interview are changing yearly, so make sure you check the details when you get your invitation to interview.
Multiple Mini Interviews – MMIs require you to work your way around a series of stations, facing a different interviewer with new questions or tasks at each station. (These stations can include role-playing and looking at graphs and charts.)
Panel interviews – Panel interviews involve a panel of interviewers asking you questions over a more extended period of time and represent what we consider a more “traditional interview.” (Usually lasting anywhere around 30-60 minutes.)
When Do Medical School Interviews Start?
The Medicine interview season can start as early as November and usually runs to March. The timeframe between receiving your invite and having your interview can be quite short, so it’s best to prepare in advance – instead of leaving prep until you’ve received an invite. Some Medical Schools will let you know if you’ve been successful within a couple of weeks of your interview, while others will hold off until the deadline in March.
You will be invited to interview via email or school portals; therefore, it is essential to keep a lookout in your emails for this, including junk mail or checking your application portals.
Check the list below to see the kinds of interviews and how they might be structured or carried out based on your school list:

There are 7-10 different stations that students will rotate around. Each station will last between 5 and 7 minutes, with a 1-minute preparation time in between stations, making the whole interview process lasting just over an hour.
Some stations may require you to interact with actors, or you may be given a scenario to read and discuss with the assessor. You will be scored on your performance at each station and then an overall score will be calculated. We feel this approach is fairer than an interview panel as it gives you the opportunity to showcase a wider skill set. It also means that if, for example, one particular station doesn’t suit your skill set, you can compensate for this at other stations.

Process:

Stage One: Academic Selection
This first stage involves judgements on the basis of the written application, primarily related to academic achievement as an indicator of intellectual suitability for a medical course and the practice of medicine. Applicants may offer a variety of qualifications, but the overriding principle is that achievement should be at the highest level, and comparable to entrants to other medical schools in the United Kingdom. It is not intended that ability to pay the fees for the course should compensate for academic achievement that is less than usual for entry to a medical course in the UK.
Stage Two: Multiple Mini Assessment (MMA)
The second stage of selection applies only to those who meet the academic threshold and is intended to judge personal attributes relating to suitability for practice as a doctor. It is a computer-based test, made up of a series of tasks intended to test applicants’ analysis, interpretation and judgement abilities related to ‘Good Medical Practice‘, published by the UK General Medical Council.
Applicants who are satisfactory at this point will be able to progress to the third and final stage of the MMI application process. Exceptionally high performing applicants may receive an offer at this stage in the process.
Stage Three: Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
The third stage of selection is intended to judge personal attributes relating to suitability for practice as a doctor. It consists of a series of tasks intended to test abilities related to ‘Good Medical Practice‘, published by the UK General Medical Council.

Remote interviews will take the form of a panel interview, with the same panel interviewing for all stations.
In both formats, you will discuss five scenarios during your interview.
There will be a short break in between each scenario where you will have time to read the briefing material for the next station before answering the questions.
Even though the scenarios are often framed in a clinical or medical context, no prior medical knowledge is required to address them. We want to find out about your ability to think critically and flexibly, “on your feet” as it were.
They are looking to assess your communication skills, your ability to work in a team, and your personal values. These are all hugely important in shaping the kind of doctor you will be and we place a lot of weight on them.
We seek caring and hardworking individuals. We will also be interested in your work experience.
