Interview Formats

Students may be required to take one or more of the following interview types:

• One-on-One Interviews
• Panel Interviews
• Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs)
• FSA
• Group Discussions

These interviews go beyond grades and personal statements. Schools want to understand your personal background and journey, extracurricular involvement, understanding of healthcare issues, and ethical reasoning and situational judgement.

What is Covered

Motivation and Personal Fit

• Why medicine?
• Role of a doctor vs other healthcare professionals
• Personal values, motivations, and long-term goals
• Strengths, weaknesses, and self-awareness
• Profile-based questions (volunteering, shadowing, leadership, failures)
• Lessons learned, growth, resilience, empathy, communication examples

Ethics and Professional Judgment

• Ethics scenarios (what should be done and why)
• Core principles (autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice)
• Confidentiality, consent, capacity
• Professional boundaries
• Managing conflict, mistakes, or uncertainty
• Balancing patient wishes with best interests

Medicine and Healthcare

• Day-to-day realities of being a doctor
• Local healthcare systems and challenges (e.g. NHS / Singapore healthcare)
• Public health issues
• Current healthcare challenges and future trends

School-Specific Insight and Fit

• Why this medical school?
• Teaching style (PBL, CBL, traditional)
• Values, curriculum structure, or assessment style
• How your experiences align with the school’s mission
• Contribution to the school community

Clinical and Scientific Reasoning

• Disease knowledge (e.g. What is leukemia?)
• Interpreting data, graphs, or information
• Science-based reasoning questions
• Problem-solving and critical thinking
• Explaining complex ideas simply
• Oddball / communication tests (e.g. Explain how to tie a shoe without gestures)

Task Types

• Picture-based stations (describe, infer, discuss implications)
• Roleplay (patient, relative, colleague, peer conflict)
• Scenario-based tasks (ethical, social, healthcare dilemmas)
• Teamwork stations (collaboration, leadership, listening)
• Professionalism stations (conduct, accountability, communication)
