Australia remains one of the most attractive destinations for Singapore students pursuing medicine. A number of Australian medical programmes are recognised for registration purposes in Singapore under the relevant registrable basic medical degree framework, making them a practical and well-established pathway for students who want an overseas medical education with a route back to Singapore.
For school leavers, the key pathways generally fall into two categories:
- Direct-entry medicine, where students apply straight from A-Levels or IB into a medicine programme
- Assured or provisional pathways, where students begin with a linked undergraduate degree and progress into the MD subject to maintaining required performance standards
The main admissions tests used by Australian medical schools for international applicants are UCAT ANZ and ISAT, and shortlisted applicants are commonly invited to interview. At schools such as Monash, UNSW, Adelaide, Newcastle, UQ, and UWA these tests remain central to the admissions process.
